Our story
Hi! I’m Gergana, and this story really starts with my great grandma, Mimi. She lost her leg due to diabetes complications and that’s when I first learned about phantom limb pain. She used to say its like her toes were ticklish, but there are no toes to scratch.
In 2020 I took part in the Graphene Hackathon where the big idea was born: what if we provide meaningful nerve stimulation to mimic the sensations of a real foot. Then that could help eliminate phantom limb pain. Luckily, researchers support that theory, so here we are, trying to actually help people with a device that does just that. Restores sensory feedback!
How this came to be
The journey
Over the past year and a half, we’ve built a prototype and then rebuilt it again. We’ve won some awards and missed out on most grants… but we’ve kept pushing forward. Our team now includes two excellent engineers and three wonderful advisors helping us go further. We’re connecting with charities, clinicians, and just about anyone with insights. We care about feedback, and getting the most input, so we can build a device every amputee will love and benefit from… or at least that’s the goal!
